#YouAreEnough30days Blog Challenge: Day 2

Day 2: In Chapter One, I [Mandy Hale] have a very special encounter with someone that felt almost like an angelic experience. Talk about a time in your life when you have been “touched by an angel,” or had a God wink moment that helped get you back on track or see something in your life through new eyes.

November 2, 2018: I’ve [Laura Hughes] been touched by an angel in the craziest way and I swear he was an angel. In March 2017, I felt stressed out trying to find the right gift for my friend’s bridal shower. The places where she was registered did not have any of her wish list items. I chose to shop at Bealls (a local department store) where they had a variety of gift cards. I also grabbed some nice mugs. When I got into the checkout lane, I was shocked to discover that the store’s system was down and could not accept debit/credit cards or checks. I was furious but tried to be polite and told the clerk to hold my items because I planned to come back later. I wasn’t sure what to do and felt overwhelmed, so I went to the frozen yogurt place in the mall.

As I’m eating my yogurt, some random guy walks over to my table while talking on his cell phone. I decide to have a conversation with him. He looked to be in his early twenties and his appearance was a bit unruly, but his hygiene was decent. We talked about writing, books, and he asked if I was okay. He could tell I was stressed out and when I tried to tell him what was causing my current stress, he kept redirecting the conversation back to something else such as my writing. He also informed me to stop stressing and be happy for my friend. I had introduced myself to this person and he said his name was “Smiley.” “Smiley, what?” I asked him. “Smiley Face,” he answered. Then I had a solution to my problem: I could go to the ATM which happened to be in the shopping center where Bealls and the frozen yogurt place were. We went our separate ways.

After I had finished running my errands for that afternoon, the anxiety was gone and as I headed to my workout, I saw Smiley Face in a vehicle. I have never seen him since. Later, I suspected he might have been an angel. I thought about the Scripture from Hebrews 13:2, “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it” (NIV). I befriended this person in spite of feeling overwhelmed and needing some breathing room after experiencing a stressful moment while shopping. I believe that I was entertaining an angel.
